Master mariners

Our marine investigators/consultants are ex-mariners, based in offices in Europe and the Far East. Between them they have over 87 years of sea-going experience.

An essential role of our marine investigators/consultants is to assist in marrying the technical and legal elements of the marine claims we handle. That not only means having the ability to apply relevant law, but also a thorough understanding of how cases are run effectively and efficiently.

They are ready to fly out to the scene at very short notice. Types of cases in which our marine investigators are involved include:

  • Groundings and explosions
  • Piracy
  • Onboard personal injury
  • Mechanical failure
  • Performance issues

Our marine investigators/consultants' role is to help ensure that all the evidential issues are anticipated, contradictions and inconsistencies are identified and the evidence tested so far as possible before reliance is placed upon it. In addition to their sea-going and investigative experience our investigators/consultants apply their training in areas such as cognitive interviewing skills and media relations management.

All our mariners are equipped with Electronic Chart and Information Systems (ECDIS) software, which enables the capture of voyage data recordings information with playback facility to assist with investigations.
